Classical still lifes with an emphasis on beach themes, complementary colors, and direct observation, color temperature and skill building.

Spinning refers to turning the paper, canvas, metal, wood or other surface at 90 degree angles while applying the oil, acrylic, watercolor, pencil, charcoal or other medium. In this class you will learn all the basics from what type of paints and surfaces are best, how different brushes work, how to set up a pallet, color mixing and mediums. We will concentrate on proper proportion, values, skin tones, and getting a likeness. We will have two models for three weeks each.

We will focus on color mixing, tonal values, edges, and accurate drawing.

Painting outside is like taking a mini vacation. You become immersed in the beauty of nature, sunlight, atmosphere and colors that cannot be reproduced in photographs. In this class we will be painting trees, foliage, grasses, sky, clouds, aerial perspective, etc. After beginning the paintings outside we will use photographs to complete the paintings in the studio.

Build a strong painting foundation and explore your passion for color with nationally known colorist Elio Camacho! Students can work in either oils or acrylics. This workshop is structured for both beginner to advanced students who want to develop their skill understanding and using color. Students will work from a floral still life that is set up by the instructor. The instructor will demonstrate his techniques, and provide easel-side instruction and critiques for students during the workshop.
Withdrawals from this workshop will not be refunded after February 1.

Elio Camacho was born in Madeira, an island south of Portugal. Elio immigrated to California with his family when he was young. His paintings are in the Alla Prima style to capture the first impression and light on a given subject.
