326W - Basic Welding Skills

This is a 3 day workshop.

Students will learn welding techniques in mild steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and plasma cutting. Learn Mig (wire feed) and Tig (Tungsten Inert Gas) welding, as well as the basics of welding equipment set-up, maintenance, and safety procedures. All welding materials furnished. Bring leather gloves, wear long pants and good safety shoes. No flip flops or tennis shoes! Students must be 16 years of age or older. Class meets three days - either Saturday, Sunday and Saturday, or Monday, Tuesday & Thursday.

327W - Beginning Welding and Metalworking

This is a 4 day workshop.
The focus of this 12-hour, 4-meeting (3 hours per meeting), workshop is for students to learn basic metalworking skills including MIG and Oxy Acetylene welding. Demonstrations include how to cut metal using a cut off wheel and shear and the use of various bending techniques including slip roller, brake and torch bending . Students will learn “hands on” as they work on individual sculpture projects. Students should come with safely glasses, leather gloves, long pants, cotton shirts and closed toe shoes. Students must be 16 years of age or older. All tools and materials included. ***The Institute for Creative Arts is located at 968 Douglas Ave, Dunedin.

328W - Bladesmithing

This is a 2 day workshop.

Students will learn how to start and maintain a forge fire, and learn how to heat treat metal to create a knife by anvil and hammer. All tools and materials included. Students must be 16 years of age or older. Students should come with safety glasses, leather gloves, long pants, cotton shirts and sturdy closed toe shoes. *Institute for Creative Arts is located at 968 Douglas Ave, Dunedin.

Ken Straight attended the American Bladesmithing School. He demonstrates blacksmithing/bladesmithing for Pioneer Park in St. Petersburg and is the head volunteer blacksmith at Heritage Village. Ken has taught both blacksmithing and bladesmithing classes through the Pinellas Historical Society at Heritage Village.
