This course is designed for beginners and those wanting to make the switch from auto to a manual shooting mode in order to take creative control, creating art with a digital camera. Students should bring a Digital SLR (DSLR) camera to class. There will be an emphasis on foundational principles such as camera functions, operation, composition, and lighting basics through a hands-on approach. Instruction will be through theory, demonstrations, practice at home, assignments and projects. At the conclusion, students should exhibit basic proficiency in a variety of photographic situations.

Advanced/Assignment Photography PH702

In this class you will challenge your ability to work on photographic assignments. You will be provided 8 possible subjects, from which you will choose 5 of these assignments to explore further. Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop will be the software used. We will take a deep dive to look at how the software will be used to help create and complete your vision.
There will also be in an in-depth critique of your assignments as well as an advance look at shooting, lighting, and composition.

Required for this class: DSLR, mirrorless or prosumer camera (cameras with separate aperture and or shutter dial mode.) Useful for this class although not required are: laptop, external flash unit, Photoshop/Lightroom software.

ICM Photography/Intentional Camera Movement PH703

Intentional Camera Movement (or ICM for short) is a photographic technique where the camera is moved as the image is being taken. Moving your camera during exposure can open up more creative options for you to try out. The technique allows you to concentrate on lines, form and colour in your images. ICM allows you blend colours and shapes for an interesting abstract shot.

Subjects although not limited to will include landscapes, cityscapes, night photography and many other opportunities to make creative painterly effects.

Required: DSLR or Mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses. USB Flash Drive. Helpful but not required; tripod or monopod. You must have a basic understanding of Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO, the exposure triangle.

Intermediate Digital Photography PH701

For this class, students should have an understanding of focus of the camera, use of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Students will learn about image storage through catalogs via Lightroom, as well as image manipulation and masking via Photoshop. Topics include portrait lighting, HDR (High Dynamic Range), landscape and city photography, and an introduction to flash photography. The class will finish with image critique and discussion.
