Learn techniques used by surface design artists to create beautiful one of a kind textiles. In this class you will gain experience with various methods of dyeing, painting and printing fabric. A few of the skills you will acquire include simple ways to make your own silk screens, making dye “paint” working with soy wax and other resists, shibori dyeing, silk painting, discharging fabric, and several improvisational techniques of screen printing. Also you will learn how to add complexity to your fabrics by adding foils, photo transfers, and various types fabric paints. You will be given the opportunity to work on cotton linen and silk. At the end of this class you will take home a beautiful silk scarf and several large swatches of art cloth, suitable for framing or to use in your sewing and art projects. You will have the opportunity to work on cotton, linen, silk and paper. All materials provided by the instructor.
