Hanging out, drinking delicious coffee, talking about art… ahhhh, that’s the life! Well, that IS the life at least for an hour or so each month at the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Coffee and Conversation series. Enjoy coffee (Presented by the Sterling Society of DFAC) and insights as each month’s invited guest holds forth on their own area of expertise. Admission to these relaxed talks is $5 and is FREE to current DFAC members.
Thursday, May 10th, 2018 at 12 noon, the series hosts artist Dacota Maphis. Delve into imagination with Dacota Maphis, as she explores her subconscious through digital artwork she calls Digital PHRA (Photo Revised Art). Approaching her skill as an unsolved puzzle, she starts with an original photograph for her inspiration. Then, by working with the limitations of the existing pixels, she designs the work into existence by moving the pixels around like paint on a canvas, transforming the photograph into a totally new dramatic expression. Sometimes she changes the colors or leaves parts untouched. Any change will make you look twice and reveal relevance to what she is experiencing at the time.
Born in Greenville South Carolina, Dacota moved to Florida at age nine after the untimely deaths of both her father and days later her best friend. She still lives in Clearwater and works as a full time award-winning artist in several mediums including her Digital Art.
So stop by for some Coffee & Conversation. Or call ahead to the Palm Cafe’ (298.DFAC ext 237) and have lunch waiting for you!
