Every day is another opportunity to honor the dedication of our nation’s veterans. That’s why, in honor of the Veterans Day holiday, we want to remind all of our patrons that we offer The David Scales Veterans and Family Fund Award, which is an arts award program encouraging veterans and their families to get involved in the arts and tell their stories.
Who Was David Scales?
David Scales, who was a devoted member of the Dunedin Fine Art Center, dedicated 32 years of his life in service to this country. Having enlisted in the army at age 17, Scales served combat tours in both Korea and Vietnam prior to retiring as a full colonel.
His wife, Julie, has carried on his legacy and is the founder of our veterans award. It is her intent, in conjunction with the Dunedin Fine Art Center, to help veterans and their loved ones explore local artistic outlets as well as pursue opportunities for art-related education.
What Does The Award Entail?
The DSVFF award provides a full tuition grant in addition to a materials stipend. Those who apply also have the opportunity to attend Dunedin Fine Art Center classes and workshops on scholarship.
Military veterans of the United States Armed Forces, as well as their immediate family members, are invited to apply online for the award, as long as they are residents of the Tampa Bay area.
If you are not currently a recipient of the DSVFF award but you are a veteran or an immediate family member to a veteran, you and/or a loved one are still invited to take one free class at the Dunedin Fine Art Center in honor of Veterans Day!
We thank you for your service and look forward to connecting with you. If you have further questions about the veterans award or the classes and workshops we offer, please stop by or contact us by calling (727) 298-DFAC.
