The WORD is….
Three of the exhibitions that will hold down galleries at the Dunedin Fine Art Center this summer, will be multi-syllabic. Each of them takes words as a departure point. Some leave them at the door with the title (Poetics of Space), while others bring them to the party and celebrate each phrase. The fourth, which opens DFAC’s NEW gallery, celebrates the core of the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s educational mission, its award-winning faculty.
Word UP!
A mixed media celebration of the WORD in contemporary art-making featuring works by Leslie Fry, Vancouver artist Ben Skinner, Sister Corita Kent and select artists from the collection of USF’s renown Graphicstudio including: Lesley Dill, Abbott Miller and Ellen Lupton, Pat Steir and John Yau.
The Poetics of Space
Elizabeth Huey, Mernet Larsen, Leslie Lerner and Charlotte Schulz explore the ‘poetics of space’, those spaces we seek, create – or otherwise, privately inhabit – where imagination finds refuge. Title from the book by the same name, by Gaston Bachelard.
In a Dark Time,
The Eye Begins to See…
Juried all-media exhibit by artists visually interpreting a single line from a poem of their choosing. *Exhibition title from a poem by Theodore Roethke.
Our Gang
DFAC’s newest gallery opens with a celebration of its stellar faculty. “We are very proud to have Our Gang be the inaugural exhibit in our new west wing gallery as DFAC’s faculty is the heart of our organization” offers Catherine Bergmann, who as DFAC’s Curator and Director of Adult Education, knows better than most. Works by veteran DFAC instructors such as Brooke Allison, Ira Burhans, Steve Littlefield, Susan Maxon, Melissa Miller Nece, Joan Swetland, Susan Huskey Woas and Glenn Woods will be joined by newer additions, including Karen Baker, Jennifer Klaus, Pam Pawl, and Stacy Perry and others.
Artist’s Talk: 6-7 pm – Opening reception: 7-9 pm – June 20, 2014 – DFAC Members—Free; Non-Members $5 admision
All four exhibitions run through August 17. Admission is FREE.
