Dunedin Fine Art Center “Tops Out” Newest Addition
(Dunedin, FL – January 23, 2014) On a blustery Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 12 NOON, J. Kokolakis Contracting and the Dunedin Fine Art Center (DFAC) officially “topped out” the addition of nearly 11,000 sq.ft. that is adding approximately 7,500 sq. ft. to DFAC’s main campus on Michigan Blvd. in Dunedin. Joseph Kokolakis joined DFAC’s executive director, George Ann Bissett in thanking everyone who has made this project possible, including Dunedin Mayor Dave Eggers and City Manager Rob DiSpirito, private donors, DFAC Board Members and all of the crew from J. Kokolakis Contracting during the short ceremony.
The $3.5 million project designed by Collman and Karsky Architects of Tampa and constructed by J. Kokolakis Contracting of Tarpon Springs, breaks the sky on the final phase in the Expanding Creative Visions capital campaign. Termed Vision 2014, this phase offers significant expansion and improvement for DFAC’s programs said George Ann Bissett, DFAC’s executive director.
“It’s exciting to see this project moving forward,” noted Catherine Bergmann, DFAC’s Adult Education Director. “This will mean so much for the adult students in the Gladys Douglas School for the Arts, and all of our visitors” she added. The construction, which was spurred by a State of Florida matching grant and funding from the City of Dunedin will add a new gallery and four studio/classrooms as well as house a newly renovated Gallery Gift Shop and Palm Cafe.
The Topping Out, included the enclosure of the second floor, though interior completion of that level will await additional funding said Ken Hannon, Associate Executive Director of DFAC. When completed, the six studios housed on the 7,500 sq. ft. second floor will be a enable a dramatic leap forward in DFAC’s educational offerings noted Hannon.
