It’s the kind of feeling that keeps Brooke Allison coming back to Dunedin Fine Art
Center’s classrooms again and again after 32 years of teaching.DFAC, a Home for Exprloring Art
“I think this is my home—the other one is down the street,” Brooke laughed. “I
think it’s a gem. A lot of people who work here feel this is their center. It’s for the
people who want to explore art.”A multi-faceted artist and instructor, Brooke actually does live just a few minutes away
near Dunedin High School, but can often be found at her “second home” teaching adult
painting classes twice a week, and one Saturday each month. She also returns in the role
of student for a weekly sculpture class.Appreciating the Artistic Tradition
As a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America, Brooke shares an appreciation for
artistic tradition, from color theory to classic technique. She also encourages discussion
on the theory, objectives, and essential nature of art, drawing from a background spent
studying at the Art Institute of Chicago.During her time at Dunedin Fine Art Center, Brooke has taught everything from pastel
and drawing, to oil painting, portraiture, abstraction, and experimentation.“A lot of skills are not practiced anymore because they’re not popular, but
it’s so important to hang on to some of that,” Brooke said. This former Gulf
Coast Museum of Art instructor said over the years she has learned a lot
about discipline, “and the importance of having fun.”A community of pastel society workshops spun from her teachings, bringing
national speakers in for lectures and classes.“We have a great faculty,” Brooke said. “It’s diverse, and people really want
to work with our teachers. They’re very approachable, and I like that.”Creativity for All Ages
The Dunedin Fine Art Center is proud to offer a wide variety of creative and
educational experiences for people of all ages, who return daily to become
