Fall I and Fall II
Learn how to transform and interpret observations of nature into inspired works of art! Instructor Nathan Beard will lead you on a step-by-step process beginning with a walk through Highlands Hammock to take reference photos for paintings and drawings.
Students will be asked to digitally alter those photos to any degree they wish and then complete paintings/drawings over the course of 6 Saturdays. Students should be prepared to experiment with several different media.
This course is excellent for students wanting to experiment with abstraction that is grounded in representation. Prerequisites will include basic painting and drawing classes and access to a basic photo-editing computer program at home.
Monotype Madness! with Megan Page

This class explores the use of monotype, a printmaking process that results in a single print taken from a design created in oil paint or printing ink on glass, plexiglass or metal. For this class, we will be using plexiglass.
Monotype is an incredibly versatile print medium, that allows for additive and subtractive methods, the use of stencils or the painterly approach. Everything and anything is possible!

Collagraphy is a printmaking process in which materials are applied to a rigid substrate, such as paperboard, wood or plexiglass. The word is derived from the Greek word koll or kolla, meaning glue, and graph, meaning the activity of drawing. The resulting print is termed a collagraph.
This process is exciting as many different types of materials may be used to print off of! Bubble wrap, leaves, cardboard, almost any thin substance that has texture can be explored!
Web Design: Where Do I Start? With David Wood

Ready to create your own web site or learn how it works? We’ll begin with basic definitions and terminology. Students will be introduced to Hypertext Markup language (HTML) and begin creating web pages.
Subsequently, they will learn about cascading style sheets (CSS) to start styling their content. The course will cover web design fundamentals (handling images and fonts on the web) and page layout.
Finally, there will be an overview on web hosting from setting up an account to uploading files to the web. Students will be given resources to continue to maintain their website. Basic computer skills required.
Botanical Printing with Natural Dyes and Surface Design - Intensive Workshop with Kathy Hays
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Sep. 21-23, 10am-4pm
Natural Dyes are rich and beautiful. In this immersive workshop, you will learn how to properly mordant fabrics protein and cellulose fabric, how to use natural dye extracts to create beautiful textures with Botanical Printing and Surface Design techniques.
The focus is not only on the learning the process but also assisting the artist in developing their own unique patterns. You will also learn how to silk screen images to the fabrics for added depth and dimension. We will be using an odorless discharge medium for enhancing of the designs.
This is great for Art quilters who seek companion fabric or abstract prints with an easy to use the palette. The natural dyes do not carry harmful odors as with synthetic dyes. We will be exploring multiple techniques via small samples. Some Eco Printing experience is needed for this workshop. Hand strength is needed to make bundles.

Have you always wanted to make your own paper? Grab some junk mail and learn how it’s done! These homemade papers can be multicolored or incorporate materials such as dried flowers. You can use your paper for collage, mixed media, and art journaling!
Mixed Media Painting Workshop with Candy Schultheis
Tuesday, October 23, 10am-4pm
Do you love working in a variety of media? This one-day painting workshop allows you to experiment with multiple mediums and techniques. In addition to using acrylic paint and watercolor, you will learn to add texture with gels and mediums, as well as incorporate inks, pastels, stamps, papers and more to create layers within your piece.
The Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Gladys Douglas School of the Arts is currently registering for Summer & Fall Session classes for children, teens & adults, with discounted tuition rates for DFAC Members.
