Women Who Work: A Portrait Project Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage

Members of the WCA, Florida chapter, have created portraits of their local Women Who Work. Since early 2020 they have been painting, drawing and photographing thirty-six subjects. The WCA’s ultimate goal is for the portraits to be permanently displayed in a prominent location, destined to be a legacy project.

Women Who Work brings past to present. Prior to the 19th Amendment, women could neither vote nor hold most jobs. Over the past one hundred years, gaining the vote has improved the lot of American women—yet progress is still wanting. Women artists honor the diversity and achievements of St Petersburg’s women. By bringing women out of the shadows, they see the larger view representing the legions of women whose efforts and achievements deserve to be included in the historical record.

WCA Florida intends this as the first of a continuing yearly series. Diverse women, both artists and subjects, honor those-tooth-&-nail fighters who keep their communities alive.

In conjunction with Women Who Work WCA is holding a raffle. The prize is a handmade, bound book of miniature art originals created by their membership. This collaborative artists’ book is a unique offering of original art representing miniature work by their member artists. The raffle tickets are $10 each and are for sale until the day of the drawing, when the winner will be announced. Due to COVID, CANCELED is the August 18 drawing, a landmark day– the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. A new date will be announced.
