Out of Many, Still Many

Out of Many, Still Many brings together regional figurative painters depicting everyday moments of friends, families, and quiet, lived experiences across a wide spectrum of cultures and identities. Created in honor of America’s Semiquincentennial, the exhibition reflects a “salad bowl” vision of the nation, where peoples’ distinct traditions and perspectives are held fast and celebrated.
Through the historical weight of painting, the exhibition lends a sense of permanence and importance to these intimate scenes, elevating the lives of ordinary people as essential parts of the American story. Together, the works celebrate difference as a source of strength, suggesting the possibility of a shared civic life that is enriched, rather than diminished, by its many voices, wherein the whole becomes something greater than the sum of its parts.
