Call for Artists: Legacy

The Dunedin Fine Art Center invites artists to submit work for consideration for the upcoming juried exhibition Legacy. Artists are encouraged to explore the broad subject of “legacy”. How do you want to be remembered? What do you want to leave behind to your family? To the future generations? The world? What things do we inherit that shape our lives?
Guest Judged by artist and Adult Education Director of the Dunedin Fine Art Center Deon Blackwell, cash prizes will be awarded: Best of Show – $500, 1st Place – $300, 2nd Place – $200, 3rd place – $100.

We are announcing this opportunity in advance to allow artists ample time to develop their work. Submissions will officially open the first week in July.
Meet Our Guest Judge Deon Blackwell
Deon Blackwell was born in Pensacola, Florida and studied Music Performance and Studio Art at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. In 2007, Deon received his MFA in Studio Art from the University of South Florida focusing on sculpture with a primary medium of ceramics. His clay studio practice includes a wide variety of ceramic processes including: Raku, extrusion building, experimental glazing, kiln building and various decal, luster, and casting methods. Along with lectures for several ceramic institutions on his unorthodox processes, his various bodies of work have been exhibited across the country in solo galleries and private collections. Since receiving his MFA, Deon has taught art at the University of South Florida and Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design in Denver. He is currently the Adult Education Director for the Dunedin Fine Art Center in Dunedin Florida and works in his studio in Temple Terrace Florida.

Submission Guidelines
Eligibility
Open to artists working in any medium.
Media Accepted
Artists must fill out submission form before the deadline on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, 5:00 pm in order to be eligible. Artwork delivered without having filled out the submission form and artwork loan agreement before the deadline cannot be accepted. Exceptions cannot be made.
We’re accepting work in all 2D and 3D media including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, digital art, and sculpture.
Artwork must be ready to hang or install upon delivery to the art center. For example, 2D must be wired or have a similar hanging mechanism already installed. Artwork that is not ready to install upon delivery can not be accepted. Artists with unusual installation requirements should contact DFAC in advance.
Please include your name, artwork title, artwork medium, and price/value with your artwork upon delivery.
Size Restrictions
2D artwork should not be larger than 168 inches total when adding all sides. 3D work should fit on a pedestal or floor area no larger than 30 inches x 30 inches (with no restrictions on height.
Sales & Insurance
Work may be made available for sale. The Dunedin Fine Art Center retains a 40% commission on sales (60% going to the artist). Artwork will be insured while on DFAC property for up to 60% of its value.
Entry Guidelines
- Artists may submit one work per entry; artists may submit no more than two (2) artworks.
- Submission fee: $20 per entry for Members | $25 per entry for Non-Members
- No entry is guaranteed to be included in the exhibition. Pieces are accepted based upon quality and space available.
- All entry fees are non-refundable.
- Online entry form must be filled out. You will be notified by email of your entry’s acceptance.
- You must also send a minimum of one photograph of your artwork per submission to exhibits@dfac.org before the deadline of August 11, 2026. Please include your name and the artwork title in the email.

Notification of acceptance: Friday, August 14, 2026
Artwork Drop-Off: August 24 and 25, 2026 from 10am to 2pm
Exhibition opening reception: September 4, 2026 from 6pm to 9pm
Exhibition closes: October 18, 2026 Artwork Pick-Up: October 19 and 20, 2026 from 10am to 2pm
