Hanging out, drinking delicious coffee, talking about art… ahhhh, that’s the life! Well, that IS the life at least for an hour or so each month at the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Coffee and Conversation series. Enjoy coffee (Presented by the Sterling Society of DFAC) and insights as each month’s invited guest holds forth on their own area of expertise. Admission to these relaxed talks is $5 and is FREE to current DFAC members.

Thursday, October 11th, 2018 at 12 noon, the series hosts artist Lorraine Turner. Learn how Lorraine uses her art to help endangered animals worldwide simply by communicating with animals through daily silent meditation,
It is her greatest passion to express empathy and support for animals by telling their stories through her art. Each piece begins with a meditation message that is quickly sketched. Then she builds her story board using textiles such as organza, tussah silk, merino wool, dyed burlap, vintage doilies, hand made lace and much more.

Winner of two Emmy Awards as one of the lead designers for the United States professional sports team the Philadelphia 76ers, and recipient of multiple comics industry awards at the San Diego International Comic-Con, Lorraine Turner is a
textile artist and illustrator, who also draws and writes books and graphic novels. She is currently the Art Director of the Library of American Comics and works from her studio in Clearwater, Florida.

Lorraine has established a unique place for herself in the world of textile art. She combines her varied experience as a watercolorist, commercial artist, children’s wear designer, and television animator with her love for all things fabric to create multi-textured, one-of-a-kind textile art.

Each piece tells a story and she uses a variety of objects to relate those stories. Any given piece can be stitched and felted with anything from burlap, shoelaces, bridal lace, and dupioni silk to repurposed items and cast-offs found in thrift shops or that pair of old jeans in the bottom of a dresser. Everything helps create texture and everything helps to construct the story being told.

So stop by for some Coffee & Conversation. Or call ahead to the Palm Cafe’ (298.DFAC ext 237) and have lunch waiting for you!
