W-MS100 Intro to Ceramic Kilns with Deon Blackwell

Have you ever wanted to know the ins and outs of kiln firing and what is possible with your ceramics? This lecture will cover the basics from what is a clay body and what happens with the different stages of clay to why we fire the work and how that process happens in a kiln. Learn the differences between Oxidation and Reduction, mid low and high firings, what are atmospheric firings, the actual make up of kilns and more.

This Makerspace lecture will be presented by Deon Blackwell, who has taught ceramics for more than 20 years and has built several kilns throughout the Tampa Bay area. The lecture will be followed by a Q&A covering the fundamentals of kiln firing and answering questions about the firing process.
