James McNeill Whistler (1834 – 1903) was more than the painter of a famous mother. In Victorian London, he scandalized critics, championed “art for art’s sake,” and crafted some of the most radical and exquisite paintings of the nineteenth century.  Dee’s lecture offers an engaging overview of his art, his tumultuous career, and his unique contributions to modernism.
