In planning for its upcoming “RE-BIRTHday” exhibit and video, the Dunedin Fine Art Center (DFAC) is tipping its hat to the origins of the venerable “wearable ART” fashion show that premiered in the summer of 2005 by bringing it back within the walls of DFAC itself. Since those original days when overflow crowds muscled their way into DFAC’s atrium to catch a glimpse of such artist/designers as Nancy Cervenka, Carly Champagne, Rogerio Martins, Ivanka Ska, Frank Strunk III, and Aimee Trachtenberg, DFAC’s wearable ART Fashion Show has grown into an auditorium-filling summer staple of international repute.
DFAC still aims to host the WA16 “Sweet Sixteen” iteration of this art and fashion mash-up in 2022. Postponed last year, due to the pandemic, there was hope that in this second year of restricted events there could be a RE-BIRTHday pARTy to celebrate our emergence from the pandemic. It has become clear we are not in a place to put Covid in our rear-view mirrors yet but we will still commemorate the ultimate re-birth of Wearable ART with Wearable Art Pop-Up Exhibits and a video produced especially for the occasion.

REBIRTHday Suits + Seers
Wearable Art celebrates its birthday at home this year! This invitational pop-up exhibition of Wearable Artists + other invited 2D creators show us how to come back to LIFE (and what to wear) as we start to look at possibilities beyond the pandemic.

The exhibition opens on Monday, August 16, 2021 and runs through Friday, August 27, 2021
In a companion pop-up exhibit, in DFAC’s Meta B. Brown Gallery, community members have been asked to Design Your RE-BIRTHday Suit! In this open call for entries. The designs can take the form of a fashion illustration, 3D model and/or whatever people’s imagination conjures! There will be People’s Choice Awards.
The exhibition is also on display from Monday, August 16, 2021 through Friday, August 27, 2021.
The video, which will be shot on a closed set on August 20th will be ready for world-wide distribution, when it is finished…. We can’t wait!
