New Exhibitions Explore Change, Memory, Identity, Tradition, and Legacy
DUNEDIN, Fla. — The Dunedin Fine Art Center (DFAC) will open five new exhibitions on Friday, September 4, bringing together artists working across painting, photography, sculpture, installation, video, and fiber arts.
Together, the exhibitions explore ideas of impermanence, grief and remembrance, identity and self-definition, cultural tradition, and the legacies we create and inherit.
The exhibitions will open with a public reception on Friday, September 4, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. DFAC members receive early access beginning at 5:30 p.m. Admission for non-members is $10 online or $12 at the door.
The Only Lasting Truth
September 4–December 24, 2026
Taking its title from author Octavia Butler’s words, “The only lasting truth is change,” The Only Lasting Truth features artists Katina Bitsicas, Deon Blackwell, Samo Davis & Petra Gurin, Kristin Roles, John Steck Jr., and Eszter Sziksz.
The exhibition brings together artworks designed to transform, deteriorate, and ultimately disappear. Through processes of crumbling, fading, melting, and decay, the works challenge traditional ideas of permanence and preservation while embracing change as part of the creative process.
Intimate Monument
September 4–December 24, 2026
Intimate Monument features Katina Bitsicas, Desiree Moore, Kristin Roles, John Steck Jr., and Eszter Sziksz in an exploration of grief, memory, and the impulse to create in the face of loss.
Through photography, installation, video, and sculpture, the artists consider the ways personal acts of remembrance can become lasting forms of connection and memory.
The Tender Weight
September 4–December 24, 2026
The Tender Weight brings together six Black male painters connected to the Tampa Bay area: Jay Coachman, Raheem Fitzgerald, iBOMS, Dallas Jackson, Zulu Painter, and Marlon Tobias.
Through distinct approaches to painting, the artists explore family, spirituality, masculinity, joy, grief, memory, and self-definition while engaging with the complex history of painting as both a tool of power and a vehicle for resistance.
Guiding Stars: Quilter’s Crossing 2026 Quilt Challenge
September 4–December 24, 2026
This year’s annual Quilter’s Crossing challenge, Guiding Stars, recognizes the 250th anniversary of the United States through the language of quilting.
Inspired by the symbolism of stars as guides, sources of hope, and points of inspiration, the exhibition invites quilters to reflect on the people, experiences, and forces that help guide us forward. Quilter’s Crossing celebrates both the traditions of quilting and the creative possibilities of contemporary fiber art.
Legacy
September 4–October 18, 2026
DFAC’s juried exhibition Legacy invites artists to consider what we leave behind and what we inherit. Artists explore questions of memory, family, culture, influence, and the ways our lives shape future generations.
The exhibition is guest judged by Deon Blackwell, artist and Adult Education Director at the Dunedin Fine Art Center.
From works that physically change over time to those that preserve memory and explore identity, DFAC’s Fall 2026 exhibitions offer visitors multiple perspectives on what it means to create, remember, transform, and leave a mark.
Fall Exhibition Opening Reception

The exhibitions will be on view at the Dunedin Fine Art Center through December 24, 2026, with Legacy on view through October 18.
