Coffee and Conversation with Caryl Renz at the Dunedin Fine Art Center.

Hanging out, drinking delicious coffee, talking about art… ahhhh, that’s the life! Well, that IS the life at least for an hour or so each month at the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Coffee and Conversation series. Enjoy coffee (Presented by the Sterling Society of DFAC) and  insights as each month’s invited guest holds forth on their own area of expertise.  Admission to these relaxed talks is $5 and is FREE to current DFAC members.

Thursday, October 8th at 12 noon, the series hosts shell artist Caryl Renz. Caryl will inspire attendees to look at shells in a different way as they take a walk along the beach. They’ll learn how to look for the egg casings where the shells are ‘born’ on the sand and express themselves in many ways in their own creations, whether they are shadow boxes, mirrors, plaques or any of the many other example Caryl will share about this oh-so-appropriate Florida art form.

Caryl Renz holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts degrees from Ohio State University. Although her first career was as an educator starting the art department at Dublin, Ohio High School and then as a Real Estate Specialist of luxury waterfront properties in the Tampa Bay area,  Caryl’s interest in the vanishing art of Sailor Valentines and intricate shell art arose in recent years at her summer home in Cape Cod.  She creates Sailor Valentines, pocket watches with tiny shell designs inside, paperweights and crocheted purses of all sizes embellished with her shell motifs for herself and through personal, one of a kind commissions. She has been on the faculty of the Dunedin Fine Art Center teaching others her shell art for the past four years. Several of her pieces were chosen to be in the Digital Art Book of Tampa Bay. Her award winning works are featured locally in various art galleries, gift shops and regional shell shows, with hopes of selling some of her creations on the internet.

So stop by for some Coffee & Conversation. Or call ahead to the Palm Cafe’ (298.DFAC ext 237) and have lunch waiting for you!
