Concepcion Poou Coy Tharin

Concepcion Poou Coy Tharin, or Concep for short, is Mayan Q’eqchi’, from a small village named Samac outside of the city of Coban in Guatemala. She is a master back-strap weaver, taught by her mother and sister and specializes in an intricate lace-like white-on-white style of weaving called picb’il. She has given workshops at New College of Sarasota and the Weedon Island Preserve and is dedicated to promoting Mayan weaving and culture.
