Rebekah Lazaridis: Bridging The Gap Between Theatre and Visual Art
Rebekah Lazaridis is a multidisciplinary artist that creates mixed media and immersive art inspired by theatre. A professional scenic artist by trade, Rebekah transforms art galleries into theatrical settings where viewers are engaged in submersible experiences. In this discussion, Rebekah invites you into her process of repurposing discarded theatrical scenery and creating large scale art installations.
Rebekah graduated in 2005, with a BFA in painting and drawing from School of The Art Institute of Chicago. She has worked as resident scenic artist for several professional theater companies including The Straz Center, Patel Conservatory, StageWorks, American Stage and Jobsite Theater. She also apprenticed with USA829 in New York City and worked in teams on large scale films, live television, SNL and Broadway. Her work can be seen at www.rebekahlaz.com.
