Building Community with Tampa Bay Trust
by Mitzi Gordon
We often hear people refer to the Dunedin Fine Art Center as one big family. From the volunteers and visitors, to staff and sponsors, the relationships built here become close and sustaining in so many ways.
Terence M. “Terry” Igo, CEO of The Tampa Bay Trust Company, understands firsthand the value of these long-term connections. “One of our missions is to support the communities in which we serve, and the nonprofits that our clients support,” he said. Igo discovered DFAC last year, and a natural partnership has blossomed between his business and the Art Center.
Tampa Bay Trust is a division of The Sanibel Captiva Trust Company, the largest independent trust company in Florida, with $2.5 billion in assets under management through 400 client relationships. Founded in 2001, the performance-driven group specializes in family office and wealth management, including investments, trust administration and financial counsel to high net-worth families, businesses, and nonprofits.
As Igo’s company has grown — serving families in Clearwater, Belleair, Tarpon Springs, Tampa, and most recently, Dunedin — so has their involvement with the Art Center. The Trust Company formally launched their sponsorship with a donation of $10,000 at a special DFAC event, “Where the Art Is,” hosted in partnership with Tampa Bay Magazine editors/publishers Aaron Fodiman and Margaret Wood-Burnside.
Several Tampa Bay Trust clients are already involved as Art Center members and patrons, and conversations percolated among the crowd of more than 100 guests at the reception.
“We manage client assets, but we’re more than that,” Igo said. “We provide family office services above and beyond asset management and estate planning. Just about anything a family or individual might need to complement and support their balance sheet, we can provide. If we don’t have it in house, we’ll arrange for it: pay bills, arrange for in-home health care, arrange for air transportation … just about anything.”
In addition, Tampa Bay Trust annually partners with more than 100 nonprofit organizations in Florida, providing approximately $300,000 in sponsorships. Igo said he’s grateful to friends Ralph and Charlotte Jordan for helping place DFAC among those nonprofits.
“We are thoroughly impressed with the whole facility,” said Igo, who plans to bring his own two grade-school daughters there for classes and events in the future. “It really is a gem and we look forward to an ongoing partnership. We care about these important assets in the community. They are vital to quality of life in the communities we serve.”
