Bringing a Little of Havana to Dunedin is the Goal of Viva Cuba!
It’s been 15 months since a group of DFAC supporters and Sterling Society members cam back from a week long art seeking excursion in Cuba. DFAC’s curator, Catherine Bergmann was along for the trip and planted the seeds that have found fruition in the exhibits currently on display at DFAC through March 14.
Not to be outdone, the rest of the travel group has gotten together and planned what is sure to be a memorable evening celebrating Cuba and Cuban culture. They’re calling it Viva Cuba! and have lined up some incredible partners to present a night like no other, In addition to the exhibits on display, photos by the group of DFAC travelers will be featured at the party. There will live flamenco/fusion music featuring Ole Band. Cuban Salsa dancing lessons and demonstrations by none other Casino Revò Dance. There will be live Cigar rolling and photo opportunities in classic automobiles, Cuban food will be served and Pilar Rum is bringing their delicious distillation to mix up some classic Cuban Mojitos!
The Party is from 7-10 pm on Friday, February 10 at the Dunedin Fine Art Center. Party goers are invited to dress in Cuban attire, historical costumes or come as you would as a visiting touristo.
All of this adds up to a party that is turning out to be “can’t miss” kind of affair. Cindy Collman, who arranged the original Cuban trip on behalf of the Sterling Society and is co-chair of the Viva Cuba! party, explains that “the whole idea of visiting Cuba and arranging these exhibits at DFAC was to foster an understanding of the people and culture of our nearest southern neighbor. This party just takes that idea and runs with it. We really hope to catch a little of the feeling of Havana for the evening.”
The event is a fundraiser to help support the Cuban exhiits and other educational programming at the Dunedin Fine Art Center. Tickets are $55 for DFAC members and $75 for non-members. They are available online at www.dfac.org/viva or by calling 727.298.DFAC.
