The Miniatures are coming… the Miniatures are coming…
It always seems like an invasion… albeit a small one… when the Miniature Art Society of Florida’s Annual Competition opens for exhibit at the Dunedin Fine Art Center as it does Sunday, January 15th – February 5th, 2012. Though the works are tiny, the crowds are huge noted George Ann Bissett, Executive Director of DFAC. “There’s obviously something magical about these small works” she added.
Approximately 800 works of art will be shown, in addition to the society’s permanent collection of more than 100 miniatures. Entries from 35 states and 9 countries provide a wonderful diversity of subject matter and framing techniques.
Linda Rossin, this year’s judge is an accomplished miniature artist, with a diverse artistic background. She specializes in birds and animals of East Africa and North America. Rossin stated, “My paintings are a celebration of life. They are momentary journeys that are filled with natural richness, beauty and dignity, and provide a temporary shelter from our otherwise fast paced busy world.”
And what a shelter it will be. In addition to the nearly 1000 works on display, starting Monday January 16 through the end of the show, artists from England, Canada and many US states including Florida will be on hand to demonstrate and discuss their techniques. Come be amazed by the detail of work measuring only inches in size.
Hours are Monday-Saturday: 10am – 5pm, Sunday: 12pm – 4pm
