FREE Coffee and Conversation with Catherine Bennett at the Dunedin Fine Art Center.
Hanging out, drinking delicious coffee, talking about art… ahhhh, that’s the life! Well, that IS the life at least for an hour or so each month at the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Coffee and Conversation series. Enjoy FREE coffee (Presented by the Sterling Society of DFAC) and FREE insights as each month’s invited guest holds forth on their own area of expertise.
Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 12 noon, the series hosts artist Catherine Bennett. Catherine Bennett, a nationally acclaimed teaching artist, will present,”Pouring a Different Path” a biographical essay on how she overcomes the limitations of Parkinson’s Disease and discovers the majesty of pouring watercolor paint. Catherine will include a review of her process, how it has progressed and developed, and will offer an insider’s view of her inspirations. She will include a digital presentation of a large body of her watercolor artwork.
Catherine Bennett has been painting watercolors professionally since 1986. She has held the position of Visual Arts Department Chair for the Metropolitan School for the Arts and has created and taught an art curriculum for Syracuse University and OCM BOCES. Catherine has written art reviews for the Herald Journal and been invited to present workshops for the Universal Education Foundation, the Bradford Group, and Art Haven. She has served as a juror for the New York State Art Competition of the American Legion and teaches watercolors for the Kirkland Art Center in Clinton, NY, for OASIS in Syracuse, NY, and at the Dunedin Fine Art Center in Florida. Catherine is a member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, and a signature member and Vice President of the Central New York Watercolor Society. She also manages as Executive Director of Artwork Ten, LLC, the retail entity of her artworks.
Bennett has shown in Agora Gallery in SoHo, NYC, and she’s been published by both Courage Card Co. of Minneapolis and by Akron University. She’s the 2012 featured cover artist for Kaleidoscope magazine of Akron, Ohio, which highlights her progression and includes many images of her watercolors. In 2012 Catherine was selected to be a part of Tampa Bay Art Archive, sponsored by HD Interactive, which is an app for the iPad/iPhone formats in the iTunes store through Apple.com. She is listed in Who’s Who of American Artists, Who’s Who of American Women, and Who’s Who in America. Her artwork has been exhibited at the VIVA Gallery near Los Angeles, California for the National Watercolor Society Show in 2008, at the Munson William Proctor Art Institute and at the Everson Museum. She is collected internationally from Burma, India to Pescara, Italy and is included in the 2013 National Parkinson’s Disease calendar for the month of September.
Her paintings exhibit a unique and masterly style. Some of Catherine’s most provocative work synthesizes portraiture with nature to create extremely interesting, camouflaged subjects. Catherine Bennett’s paintings depict emotional experiences or memories that cross every ethnic barrier and unite us all in similarity. Strong light, bold values, and a sense of timeless mystery fill her work. Delicate subtleties in hue, glazed in transparent washes, with layers of poured paint describe her techniques. She is inspired to capture nature’s perfection and interfuse it with the never ending, ever powerful human spirit.
Catherine’s original watercolor paintings and prints are available at her Artwork Ten Studio in Canastota, NY and online at the retail website www.artworkten.com
