Staggered Openings for Fall Exhibits Give Viewers More Time to Absorb the Kick-Off of a Thoughtful 2020-21 Season at the Dunedin Fine Art Center

Each year, DFAC looks to tie the themes of its Fall exhibits to the year-long theme running in DFAC hands-on Children’s ART Museum. This year, science is showing the way, with other treats for the eyes and mind also making appearances.

Velvet Elvis – Velvet paintings from the fifties, once considered the ultimate in tackiness. Classic subject matter included: tigers, unicorns, clowns, matadors, Elvis, Jimi Hendrix and Jesus. Since then, the nostalgia and vintage chic of the genre has made them quite collectible. For this fabulous fundraising exhibition, artists were invited to create a Velvet painting in the subject matter of THEIR choosing. Elvis will be in the house at show’s end to select the winners of this opportunity drawing extravaganza–
“Thank-you-very-much!”

Breaking Boundaries: Explorations and Collaborations
at Atlantic Center for the Arts – This collection of original, signed works by former Master Artists in residence was amassed to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the founding of Atlantic Center for the Arts. The theme, Breaking Boundaries, reflects the creative process which is the essence of Atlantic Center’s mission. This traveling component of the larger collection, which grows as the roster of artists-in-residence grows, includes 71 pieces of art ranging from musical scores and recordings to audio poems and dance videos, from edited manuscripts and photographs to sketches and studies.

Monday September 14th marks the opening of the 22nd annual children’s hands-on exhibit, also named MAD SCIENCE. This interactive hands on experience for 4.5 to 12 year olds provides an environment where you can explore the wonders of SCIENCE. This exhibit runs though August 13, 2021 in the David L. Mason (DLM) Children’s ART Museum at DFAC.
