Houston… We have Blast Off at the Dunedin Fine Art Center
In what proves to be a timely foursome of exhibitions, the Dunedin Fine Art Center is following closely on the heels of NASA’s Curiosity landing on Mars, with FOUR new space-themed exhibitions!
September 7th and 8th mark the launch of 4 new exhibits that reach for the stars and beyond. Intergalactic, Beam Me Up, My Favorite Martian and Blast Off will present an array of work gathered to reflect a broad, though singular theme.
In Intergalactic, an all-media invitational, artists from around the world take us out of this world. Extraterrestrials, black holes, lunar landscapes, celestial bodies . . . What lies beyond this earthly realm—or not? Either way, the sky’s NOT the limit for Artists: David Choi, Denis Gaston, Tsuneaki Hiramatsu, Shane Hoffman, Violet Hopkins, Masumi Kataoka, Andy Kehoe, Scott Listfield, Beili Liu, Sim Luttin, Timothy McMahon, Leah Pecoraro, Rene Rickabaugh, Isabell Schaupp, Sondra Sherman, Christel van der Laan, Marek Wyszomirski.
Houston-based video and photographic team Hillerbrand & Magsamen share contemporary interpretations of parenthood and family. Life as we do not know it in Beam Me Up. My Favorite Martian invites DFAC student, members & friends to reveal their inner aliens – Antennas, UP everyone!
In BLAST OFF: The Final Frontier, the David L. Mason Children’s ART Museum casts its gaze to the stars with a trip to outer-space for the entire family. Get your hands on Astronauts, aliens and spaceships from NASA to SCI-FI… BLAST OFF! An exhibit of work from DFAC Summer Camp artists shares the same name, but occupies its own space in the Kokolakis Family Youth Gallery.
The two day extravaganza includes the opening reception for the exhibitions on Friday night, September 7th from 6 – 8 pm which along with refreshments, will feature an Artist Talk at 6 pm and LIVE music. September 8th from 10 am – 2 pm is DFAC’s KID’S ART FEST, co-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Dunedin. Games, Food and Music will be the menu of the day, as well as a 1pm award ceremony for the young Blast Off artists.
