Coffee and Conversation with Suzanne Murphy at the Dunedin Fine Art Center.
Hanging out, drinking delicious coffee, talking about art… ahhhh, that’s the life! Well, that IS the life at least for an hour or so each month at the Dunedin Fine Art Center’s Coffee and Conversation series. Enjoy coffee (Presented by the Sterling Society of DFAC) and insights as each month’s invited guest holds forth on their own area of expertise. Admission to these relaxed talks is $5 and is FREE to current DFAC members.
Thursday, November 12th at 12 noon, the series hosts artist Suzanne Murphy. Journeying from childhood influences to her studies in theatrical costume and set design, Suzanne will trace her many lives as an artist from black and white illustration to her coming of age as an oil painter and teacher. In studio photographs she has taken through the years, she will explore the “evolutionary” process through which she has “searched” for the subject matter of her heart and the shaping of her work.
For Kansas City Artist, Suzanne Murphy, powerful images by 20th century illustrators like Howard Pyle and N.C. Wyeth pulled her into a world of words and pictures that she has never escaped. She studied at the Kansas City Art Institute, and after moving to New York City in 1976, attended classes at the Art Students League of New York and the Lester Polokav Forum of Stage Design, broadening her understanding of storytelling, character and lighting. Her career has taken her from black and white illustration to costume and set design to painting on canvas since 1993. She paints and exhibits in her studio/gallery in Tarpon Springs, and in 2010, she began teaching private and group classes in her studio and a class at the Recreation Center in Craig Park. For the last year, Suzanne has been teaching her Painting with Principles class at DFAC. She serves on the Tarpon Springs Public Art Committee whose mission it is “to enrich community through art in our surroundings.”
