Dunedin, FL – The Dunedin Fine Art Center (DFAC) is delighted to announce an engaging artist talk featuring Leslie Neumann, a celebrated Florida-based artist known for her striking encaustic (hot beeswax) landscape paintings. Join us on July 17, 2024, at 6 p.m. for an insightful discussion on Neumann’s unique artistic approach and the profound environmental inspiration behind her work.
Leslie Neumann’s art masterfully balances abstraction and representation, capturing the beauty and danger of her lush surroundings. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts from California College of Arts and a Master of Art in painting from New York University, Neumann’s impressive career spans over three decades. Her work is featured in the permanent collections of nine museums and 75 corporate collections and has been showcased in 90 exhibitions nationwide.
Neumann’s paintings are influenced by her transition from New York City to the serene fishing village of Aripeka, Florida. This shift ignited her exploration of the local coastal wetlands, depicted vividly in her “Wetlands in Transition,” on exhibit at the Dunedin Fine Art Center until August 18th. Her recent “Transitions Series,” marked by dramatic skies and minimal ground, reflects her response to contemporary political concerns.
Her work is also recognized in private and public collections, including those of Nissan Motor Corporation, ADT Securities, Marriott, Ritz Carlton Hotels, Baylor College of Medicine, and the National Space Biomedical Research Institute.
Leslie Neumann’s dedication to both her art and environmental activism is evident. As a founding member of the Gulf Coast Conservancy, she has played a significant role in preserving 15,000 acres of coastal land. She has stated, “Like any good citizen of the world, I wish for peace and prosperity for all. But… during the past few years I have been responding in my paintings to the heightened political tensions here and abroad. I see Danger. I see Hope. Then I see THE TRANSITION back and forth.”
Neumann is also eager to receive feedback on her work and welcomes questions and comments from the audience. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from an artist whose work continues to inspire and provoke thought.
