Excellent foundation for beginners\, also sharpens experienced drawing skills. Improving your drawing skills is invaluable in all of your other creative pursuits. Based on “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards\, this class develops your perceptual skills. \n\n\n\nAges 17 and up. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick Here for Supply List\nSupply List: \n\n\n\nSketch book\, 9 x 12″ or 11 x 14″\, preferably spiral bound (or a generous supply of white bond paper\, 8 1/2 x 11″\, with storage envelope)2-3 Graphite Pencils(Most useful are HB\, 2B\, 4B; you may also want H\, 2H and 6B- notcharcoal). Sets in tins are nice\, but not necessary. If nothing else\, bring a couple of #2’s.Graphite stick\,” #2 or 4B\, Available at most art supply stores; they will be available to share in classTwo erasersKneaded eraser (Gray putty type) & a standard “Pink Pearl” or white vinyl eraserText- Optional\, but worth having: Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain by Betty Edwards (There are multiple editions; we use the 2012 4th edition.) \n\n\n\nA piece of clear plastic (plexiglas) or glass\, 8 x 10″\, 1/8″ thick.(Home center stores have pre-cut plexi for minimal cost – check where they cut glass. You may use the glass from a cheap 8 x 10″ picture frame. If glass\, tape the edges.)Use a permanent marker (Sharpie) to draw two crosshairs on the plastic\, a horizontal line and a vertical line crossing at the center of the plane.  \n\n\n\nTwo black “viewfinders\,” 8 x 10″ \n\n\n\n(Use construction paper\, poster board\, or other board\, cut to match your glass/plexi.) \n\n\n\nFirst draw diagonal lines from the corners to find the center as shown. From one\, cut a rectangular opening of 4¼” x 5¼” and from the other; cut out a larger opening of 6 x 7 5/8″.) Refillable spray bottle for water. \n\n\n\nSolvent containers: Large jars\, coffee cans\, plastic tubs. Mineral spirits must be in a tightly sealable container for transport. \n\n\n\nDrawing tools: Pencils are OK\, but soft vine charcoal is better\, watercolor pencils are good. Drawing experience recommended. \n\n\n\nAges 17 and up. \n\n\n\nClick Here for Supply List\nAcrylic or Oil (traditional or water-soluable) paints \n\n\n\nprofessional-quality\, brand name supplies may cost more\, but are worth it. \n\n\n\nSuggested colors (Note there is NO BLACK OR PAYNES GRAY LISTED!): \n\n\n\nTitanium white \n\n\n\nQuinacridone red or violet or napthol crimson or Permanent Alizarine \n\n\n\nCadmium red medium or light \n\n\n\nCadmium yellow medium or light \n\n\n\nYellow ochre or raw sienna or yellow oxide \n\n\n\nUltramarine blue \n\n\n\nThalo (phthalocyanine) blue or Prussian blue \n\n\n\nBurnt sienna \n\n\n\nBurnt umber \n\n\n\nPhthalo green or viridian and or sap or Hookers green \n\n\n\nOptional – Hansa yellow \n\n\n\nPainting surface:  Prestreched canvases or canvas or other panels \n\n\n\nTry at least 11” x 14” – smaller is not easier! – 18” x 24” is even better \n\n\n\nBrushes: Large and small sizes – natural bristle (for oil) or synthetic bristle (for acrylic) Flats\, brights or filberts (#10\, 8\, 6\, 4\, and 1 or 2). One or two small round brushes with a good point. (Suggestion: Princeton 6300 “Dakota” for acrylics\, also work for oils) \n\n\n\nPalettes: Disposable palette pads are fine. A piece of Masonite can also be used for a long time. Or china\, glass\, plexiglass. A tight-sealing plastic palette or container (like flat tubberware) is good for storing and transporting wet paint. (Palettes with mixing wells are for watercolors) \n\n\n\nSolvent and mediums: \n\n\n\nFor oils (Necessary unless you’re using watersoluble oils): Oderless mineral spirits (such as Gamsol\, Utrecht NOOD\, Turpenoid) for thinning and cleanup. \n\n\n\nLinseed oil and or Liquin or Galkyd or similar glazing/quick-drying medium \n\n\n\nFor Acrylics (Optional): Acrylic gloss medium\, retarding medium\, barious specialty mediums for textures or effects. Refillable spray bottle for water. \n\n\n\nSolvent containers: Large jars\, coffee cans\, plastic tubs. Mineral spirits must be in a tightly sealable container for transport. \n\n\n\nDrawing tools: Pencils are OK\, but soft vine charcoal is better\, watercolor pencils are good. Kneaded eraser or other type of eraser. \n\n\n\nRags or paper towels \n\n\n\nAlso useful: Masking tape\, palette knife\, old toothbrushes\, ruler or yardstick\, clip to hold photo references\, brush soap. \n\n\n\nDFAC provides easels\, taborets (carts to hold supplies) and stools.
