In 1900, John Singer Sargent was the world’s most celebrated portraitist. His most famous work, Portrait of Madame X, is a treasure of the Metropolitan Museum. Dee’s lecture provides an overview of Sargent’s amazing career. And, in a more in-depth account of the Mme. X story, you’ll learn about Sargent’s goals for the painting, his unusual relationship with his infamous subject, and why the portrait created a firestorm in the Paris art world!
