Campaign Background – Cart before the Horse
- 2010 Louis & Valerie Flack East Wing opened
- A State of Florida grant for Cultural Facilities was written for the Flack East Wing
- 2012 State of Florida announced that DFAC was awarded a grant for $500,000 for Cultural Facilities
- Board of Directors, staff and grant writer, Cindy Gorshe Collman, updated project by sending drawings and description of the ground floor of the proposed West Wing
- Ground floor for West Wing accepted by the State of Florida as qualifying for the Grant
- Grant had to be matched 2 to 1
- City of Dunedin through their Quality of Life statements agreed to match State of Florida with $500,000
- Dunedin Fine Art Center matched with $500,000
Campaign Status – July 2013 – 50% Success to Date! Woooow
- Architect – Collman & Karsky prepared drawings, specifications, engineering involving several months of meetings
- J. Kokolakis Contracting asked to bid to design
- A void was discovered while engineering borings were carried out
- Void had to be dealt with before contracts could be signed with contractor
- Void – cost $10,000 drillings and $42,000 grouting
- A different foundation is now required due to the Void
- Board of Directors agreed that the Second Story of the West Wing is to be shelled out (built out) as it will save over $800,000 in the future.
- The West Wing is the final build-out of DFAC and by shelling out the second floor it will not require the organization to close when the final expansion is undertaken
- Contracts signed with J. Kokolakis Contracting
- Start date: Approx. July 16, 2013 – Finish date: May 14, 2014 : 10 Months
Campaign Statistics – July 2013
- West Wing: Ground floor level: 4 new Studios; New Gallery; Relocated & enlarged: Gallery Gift Shop, Palm Café and Library. Administrative offices. Total square footage for ground floor approximate 11,000
- Second floor level: 6 new Studios. This level is only to be shelled out unless more funds are raised to complete the interior. Total square footage: 7,400
