425W–Discover Watercolor Pencils
Instructor: Melissa Miller Nece
The class will focus on DERWENT products.
These pencils will be provided for use in class:
Derwent Inktense, Watercolour, Aquatone and Graphitint pencils
(small sets for individual use and to keep, class sets to share)
You may bring any other watercolor pencils or sticks you have, including watercolor crayons.
DRAWING PAPER or ILLUSTRATION BOARD
1 - 3 pieces, your choice or choices of any of the following
Watercolor paper in blocks or sheets (postcard sized blocks are a good choice)
Illustration board (cold press, hot press or watercolor board)
Smooth bristol is fine, vellum bristol can also work
Watercolor canvas (pieces, panels or stretched) is also an alternative
If you bring sheets, cut or tear a full-size sheet (22 x 30”) to half- or quarter-sheet size; plan to mount it on drawing board with artists’ tape to prevent buckling
Battery-powered electric sharpeners are fine, but hand sharpeners will also be needed.
MASKING TAPE or ARTISTS’ TAPE
Small (but not tiny) watercolor type brushes — one round and pointed, one flat
Cotton swabs are a useful substitute or addition
SMALL WATER CONTAINER
GRAPHITE DRAWING PENCILS
H or HB (#2) lead or whatever you prefer
Optional: WATERPROOF DRAWING PEN (Micron Pigma Pen or drafting pens)
Optional: X-ACTO or other CRAFT KNIFE
