SUMMARY:PT579 Beginning Watercolor With Kerry Stratton Waltz
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, 6 Week ClassBeginner\, Intermediate \n\n\n\n\n\nNew to watercolor? This class will lead you through everything you need to know to get started in watercolor. We will complete a painting each week that will focus on basic techniques and explore a variety of subject matter. No prior experience needed\, just a few supplies and a desire to have FUN! \n\n\n\nAges 17 and up. \n\n\n\nClick Here for Supply List\nWatercolor Supply List \n\n\n\nWatercolor Paper : 140 lb. 100% cotton handmade paper (Arches) cold press. I prefer the sheet form which comes in 22×30” which can be cut down to four ¼ sheets which is a good size for class work. \n\n\n\nBrushes : watercolor brushes are soft and made of sable\, squirrel\, ox hair\, and many synthetics. The most important quality of the brush is that it springs back to shape when wet. Please bring at least one of each of the following brushes: 1” Flat Brush\, #8 Round Brush\, #3 Rigger Brush (thin brush with long hairs). \n\n\n\nPaint : I prefer watercolor paint in tubes. There are many very good brands of paint but what is important is to have a warm and cool of each primary color. Grumbacher Academy is a good inexpensive student grade brand. \n\n\n\n CoolWarmRedAlizarin CrimsonCad Red Light or VermillionBluePrussian BlueUltramarine BlueYellowLemon or Cad Yellow LightCad Yellow Medium\n\n\n\nOther useful colors: Paynes Gray\, Burnt Sienna\, Burnt Umber\, Viridian\, Thalo Crimson (pink) \n\n\n\nPalette : any white palette with a good mixing area or a plastic white plate (not foam) \n\n\n\nBoard: This is support for your paper while you are painting so it should be waterproof. Size depends on size of paper and can be made of wood\, plexiglass\, Masonite or Gatorboard. \n\n\n\n2 water containers\, sponges\, papter towels\, tissues\, pencil\, kneaded eraser\, salt\, masking tape\, white crayon\, white copy paper to test color and brush strokes. \n\n\n\nIf you are new to watercolor bring what you have to class and I will help you get started. I have paper and some supplies that you can use. \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor

SUMMARY:PT484 Color\, Light\, and Form with Anders Fernbach
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, 6 Week CourseAll levels welcome! \n\n\n\n\n\nIn this course\, students will learn the language of color in an easy to understand\, objective format. This will greatly aid in their ability to describe and mix any color\, and to maintain control of their palette. In short\, we’ll be discussing practical color theory for painters that can be used in everyday painting scenarios. We will also cover “light logic”\, or the effect that light has in revealing form of any kind. Subject matter is open to the individual student\, as portraiture\, still life\, and landscape all use the principles covered in this course. For practical purposes\, students will work from hard copy photographs or screen images from a laptop or iPad during class hours. \n\n\n\nClick Here for Supply List\nThis list is the minimum; more colors can be collected over time. Most brandshave “artist quality” paints\, and “student grade” versions. Get the artist quality ifyou’re able\, but student grade will suffice in the short term. Student grade paints have more fillers\, where artist grade is mostly pigment and linseed oil. \n\n\n\nExamples:Gamblin artist paints 1980 is their student grade lineWindsor & Newton artist paints Winton is their student grade line \n\n\n\nOil PaintsTitanium white 150mlFlake white (optional)Ivory black 37mlUltramarine blue 37 mlPthalo blue 37mlTransparent Red Iron Oxide\, or Transparent Earth Red (PR101)Cadmium red light 37mlPermanent or Alizarin crimson 37mlCadmium yellow light 37mlCadmium yellow medium 37mlYellow ochre 37 mlRaw umber 37mlCadmium Orange (single pigment preferred) 37 mlSap green 37mlTere Vert 37 ml (optional) \n\n\n\nMediumSmall container of linseed oilContainer of odorless mineral spirits (Gamsol 16.9 oz or larger) and air-tight jar \n\n\n\nRecommended optional-Alkyd medium like Galkyd or Liquin for faster drying time and more transparency \n\n\n\nBrushesYou will need a variety of sizes to begin with. I recommend coming to class with 3 sizes of round brushes. We can discuss brushes more during class\, and you can decide for yourself what you prefer. Like paint tubes\, it takes time to build a collection of brushes\, and there is no need to try to get them all at one time. \n\n\n\nSurfaces18×24 inch illustration board if you wish to complete a color wheel and chartscanvas or gessoed panel (your choice of size\, but larger is often less difficult) Irecommend 16×20 to begin withYou will need more surfaces as the weeks progress\, but this will suffice to start. Depending upon your images\, you may opt for a different size or proportions. \n\n\n\nOtherPalette knife (diamond shape head preferred)Sketchbook\, or notepad for note taking\, and storing hand-outs18” metal rulerJack Richeson grey paper palette pad 12×16A stiff surface like foam board to tape palette paper to during useGesso (acrylic polymer ground) if you wish to prepare surfaces like wood\, paper\,or to add stability to commercially pre-gessoed canvasPaper towels\, or blue shop ragsCotton cloth rags. Please bring a bag lunch since the cafe will be closed. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor

For the non-beginner\, this offers help for artist’s block and a “time-out” from the stress that often accompanies creativity. For everyone\, it adds a new “palette” to be explored\, employed\, and enjoyed.  Age 17 and up. Instructor will provide all supplies. \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor

We will learn how to plan for success by using the elements of design\, color theory\, and making painting plans. Enjoy the liquidity and spontaneity of watercolor. \n\n\n\nCool \n\n\n\nWarm \n\n\n\nRed \n\n\n\nAlizarin Crimson \n\n\n\nCad Red Light or Vermillion \n\n\n\nBlue \n\n\n\nPrussian Blue \n\n\n\nUltramarine Blue \n\n\n\nYellow \n\n\n\nLemon or Cad Yellow Light \n\n\n\nCad Yellow Medium \n\n\n\nOther useful colors: Paynes Gray\, Burnt Sienna\, Burnt Umber\, Viridian\, Thalo Crimson (pink) \n\n\n\nPalette : any white palette with a good mixing area or a plastic white plate (not foam) \n\n\n\nBoard: This is support for your paper while you are painting so it should be waterproof. SUMMARY:PT370 MONDAY Intuitive Acrylic Painting With Linda Feinstein
DESCRIPTION:Mondays\, 6 Week ClassMondays are geared to those new to the intuitive process \n\n\n\n\n\nHas your artwork lost its spark? Are you caught in the struggle of trying too hard\, feeling frustrated\, and surrounded by unfinished paintings? Let’s change that. This class is designed to bring back the joy\, ease\, and fun in your creative process. Let go of the pressure and rediscover why you fell in love with making art in the first place!” \n\n\n\n In this class\, you’ll tap into your intuition through guided prompts and exercises designed to reveal your true creative self. Together\, we’ll explore a variety of tools and techniques\, allowing you to develop your own unique artistic style. Activating your canvas and responding intuitively to its energy will be a central part of this transformative process. \n\n\n\nClick Here for Supply List\nCANVAS: Two canvas. Larger canvases work best for intuitive painting…no smaller than 24″x30″( 24″x36″ is my preference). I purchase my canvases at Michael’s when they are sale. If you are juststarting out\, I recommend “Level 2 Gallery Wrapped” (no canvas boards). \n\n\n\nACRYLIC PAINT: Fluid acrylic paints (not pouring or flowing paint) work best for intuitivepainting…we will be painting many layers and they dry quicker than heavy body paint. There are sometechniques that can’t be done without fluid acrylics. Liquitex Basic FLUIDS (they are in a bottle\, not atube) are affordable and a good place to start building your fluid paint arsenal! The basic colors you need: Yellow\, red\, blue\, green\, black\, white. These are good because we canmake many colors just by mixing these together. If you have more colors\, bring them! \n\n\n\nBRUSHES: Some long handle brushes\, but bring whatever you already have. There are more brushesin class for you to try. \n\n\n\nACRYLIC GLAZING MEDIUM: This is optional but very nice to have. It gives paint a smoothness andtransparency without watering it down. Any brand works. If you are new to intuitive painting\, don’t worry about all of the supplies listed as I will have lots! Justbe sure to have the canvases\, basic fluid acrylic colors\, and some brushes. I will provide a paintingpallet for you. \n\n\n\nOTHER HELPERS:• Baby wipes• Rags• Spray water bottle• Scissors• Drop cloth (Dollar Tree has blue plastic tarps in their tools section that work perfectly as adrop cloth.)• An apron or clothes you don’t mind getting paint on.• Paper towels \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor

SUMMARY:FB904 Mayan Back-Strap Weaving With Concepcion Poou Coy Tharin
DESCRIPTION:Mondays\, 6 Week ClassAll levels welcome! \n\n\n\n\n\nLearn the ancient Mayan art of back-strap weaving. Back-strap weaving is at once a delicate and beautiful art form\, highly portable (you can tie it to any post\, tree\, or even a nail in the wall)\, and wonderfully diverse. SUMMARY:PT485 Portrait Painting: Lessons from the Masters Simplified with Anders Fernbach
DESCRIPTION:Mondays\, 6 Week ClassAll levels welcome! \n\n\n\n\n\nThis course is designed to help students of all levels develop strategies to strengthen the gesture\, proportion\, perspective\, and color in their portrait paintings by the time-honored tradition of making master copies. Students will be working from high quality 2D reproductions in this course as a matter of convenience\, but all principles can be applied to painting from a live model. We will explore different choices of palettes and techniques dependent upon the student’s experience level\, and their artists of choice. There will be broad information shared with the entire class that will apply to all\, and from there the instruction will be tailored to the individual students’ needs. This course is for all levels of experience\, you don’t have to be a master yourself to learn from the masters! \n\n\n\nClick Here for Supply List\nThis list of paints is meant to be a solid base for traditional\, representational portraiture\, and will cover most of your needs. Although many past masters have used vermillion\, I have not included that pigment because it is so cost prohibitive. Also\, depending upon your choice of artist\, you may require an additional pigment or two. If you are able to buy “artist quality” paints instead of “student grade” paints\, I recommend doing so. \n\n\n\nOil PaintsTitanium white 150mlFlake white 150ml or 37mlTrasnparent red iron oxide\, or Transparent earth red (PR101)Cadmium red light 37mlPermanent or Alizarin crimson 37mlCadmium orange 37mlYellow Ochre 37mlRaw umber 37mlTere Vert 37ml (optional)Ultramarine blue 37mlIvory black 37ml \n\n\n\nMediumSmall container of linseed oilSmall container of odorless mineral spirits (Gamsol) in an airtight jarAlkyd medium. Liquin and Galkyd are both excellent\, you’ll only need one \n\n\n\nBrushesYou will need a variety of sizes to begin with. I recommend having 3 sizes of round brushes at the minimum. We can discuss brushed more during class\, and you can decide for yourself what you prefer\, but make sure you have some larger sizes to complement the small ones. \n\n\n\nSurfacesGessoed canvas or wood panel (your choice of size\, but larger is often less difficult for working out drawing problems)One or two canvas boards around 8×10 for studiesYou may need more surfaces as the weeks progress\, but this will suffice to start. The images you choose should be taken into consideration when deciding on the size and proportions of your surface. EX: If you choose an image that has a square composition\, it would be wise to use a square surface to paint on. \n\n\n\nOtherPalette knife (I prefer a diamond head shape) Liquitex is an excellent brand and valueMetal ruler 18”Jack Richeson grey paper palette pad 12×16It’s advisable to have a stiff surface like foam board or wood to support the paper during use.Paper towels\, or blue shop ragsCotton cloth rags. Old T-shirts work very wellOptional: Gesso (acrylic polymer ground) if you wish to prepare surfaces like wood\, paper\, canvas\, metal\, or just to add stability to commercially pre-gessoed canvas \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor
