SUMMARY:PT485 Portrait Painting: Lessons from the Masters Simplified with Anders Fernbach
DESCRIPTION:All levels welcome! \n\n\n\n\n\nThis course is designed to help students of all levels develop strategies to strengthen the gesture\, proportion\, perspective\, and color in their portrait paintings by the time-honored tradition of making master copies. Students will be working from high quality 2D reproductions in this course as a matter of convenience\, but all principles can be applied to painting from a live model. We will explore different choices of palettes and techniques dependent upon the student’s experience level\, and their artists of choice. There will be broad information shared with the entire class that will apply to all\, and from there the instruction will be tailored to the individual students’ needs. This course is for all levels of experience\, you don’t have to be a master yourself to learn from the masters! \n\n\n\nClick Here for Supply List\nThis list is the minimum\, more colors can be collected over time. Most brandshave “artist quality” paints\, and “student grade” versions. Get the artist quality ifyou’re able\, but student grade will suffice in the short term. Student grade paintshave more fillers\, where artist grade is mostly pigment and linseed oil. \n\n\n\nExamples:Gamblin artist paints 1980 is their student grade lineWindsor & Newton artist paints Winton is their student grade line \n\n\n\nOil PaintsTitanium white 150mlFlake white (optional)Ivory black 37mlUltramarine blue 37 mlPthalo blue 37mlTransparent Red Iron Oxide\, or Transparent Earth Red (PR101)Cadmium red light 37mlPermanent or Alizarin crimson 37mlCadmium yellow light 37mlCadmium yellow medium 37mlYellow ochre 37 mlRaw umber 37mlCadmium Orange (single pigment preferred) 37 mlSap green 37mlTere Vert 37 ml (optional) \n\n\n\nMediumSmall container of linseed oilContainer of odorless mineral spirits (Gamsol 16.9 oz or larger) and air-tight jar. Recommended optional-Alkyd medium like Galkyd or Liquin for faster drying time and more transparenc \n\n\n\nBrushesYou will need a variety of sizes to begin with. I recommend coming to class with 3 sizes of round brushes. We can discuss brushes more during class\, and you can decide for yourself what you prefer. Like paint tubes\, it takes time to build a collection of brushes\, and there is no need to try to get them all at one time. \n\n\n\nSurfaces18×24 inch illustration board if you wish to complete a color wheel and chartscanvas or gessoed panel (your choice of size\, but larger is often less difficult) Irecommend 16×20 to begin withYou will need more surfaces as the weeks progress\, but this will suffice to start. Depending upon your images\, you may opt for a different size or proportions. \n\n\n\nOtherPalette knife (diamond shape head preferred)Sketchbook\, or notepad for note taking\, and storing hand-outs18” metal rulerJack Richeson grey paper palette pad 12×16A stiff surface like foam board to tape palette paper to during useGesso (acrylic polymer ground) if you wish to prepare surfaces like wood\, paper\,or to add stability to commercially pre-gessoed canvasPaper towels\, or blue shop ragsCotton cloth rags. SUMMARY:PT370 TUESDAY Intuitive Acrylic Painting With Linda Feinstein
DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays\, 6 Week ClassAll levels welcome! \n\n\n\n\n\nHas your artwork lost its spark? Are you caught in the struggle of trying too hard\, feeling frustrated\, and surrounded by unfinished paintings? Let’s change that. This class is designed to bring back the joy\, ease\, and fun in your creative process. Let go of the pressure and rediscover why you fell in love with making art in the first place!” \n\n\n\n In this class\, you’ll tap into your intuition through guided prompts and exercises designed to reveal your true creative self. Together\, we’ll explore a variety of tools and techniques\, allowing you to develop your own unique artistic style. Activating your canvas and responding intuitively to its energy will be a central part of this transformative process. \n\n\n\nClick Here for Supply List\nCANVAS: Two canvas. Larger canvases work best for intuitive painting…no smaller than 24″x30″( 24″x36″ is my preference). I purchase my canvases at Michael’s when they are sale. If you are juststarting out\, I recommend “Level 2 Gallery Wrapped” (no canvas boards). \n\n\n\nACRYLIC PAINT: Fluid acrylic paints (not pouring or flowing paint) work best for intuitivepainting…we will be painting many layers and they dry quicker than heavy body paint. There are sometechniques that can’t be done without fluid acrylics. Liquitex Basic FLUIDS (they are in a bottle\, not atube) are affordable and a good place to start building your fluid paint arsenal! The basic colors you need: Yellow\, red\, blue\, green\, black\, white. These are good because we canmake many colors just by mixing these together. If you have more colors\, bring them! \n\n\n\nBRUSHES: Some long handle brushes\, but bring whatever you already have. There are more brushesin class for you to try. \n\n\n\nACRYLIC GLAZING MEDIUM: This is optional but very nice to have. It gives paint a smoothness andtransparency without watering it down. Any brand works. If you are new to intuitive painting\, don’t worry about all of the supplies listed as I will have lots! Justbe sure to have the canvases\, basic fluid acrylic colors\, and some brushes. I will provide a paintingpallet for you. \n\n\n\nOTHER HELPERS:• Baby wipes• Rags• Spray water bottle• Scissors• Drop cloth (Dollar Tree has blue plastic tarps in their tools section that work perfectly as adrop cloth.)• An apron or clothes you don’t mind getting paint on.• Paper towels \n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nRegister\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDetails\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInstructor
