W-FB104 - The Art of Textile Design - Module 3: Natural Dyes and Pigments

In this session, you will learn the heritage practice of designing textiles with ancient dyes such as indigo, madder, weld, and cochineal, as well as how to obtain and utilize various “mordents” to effect color hue, intensity and fastness. Also, a significant focus of this class will be on learning a variety of exciting and eco-friendly methods for making your own dyes, inks and prints from locally sourced plants, and how to use them to apply surface design to your fabric. You will be given the opportunity to apply these techniques on cotton, silk and wool.
