Vincent Van Gogh created 70 paintings in the last 70 days of his life. His last portrait, which pictured Dr. Paul Gachet, his caretaker in Auvers, is among the most revered works from this intensely creative period. In 1990, the portrait sold at auction for $82.5 million, making it the world's most expensive painting at that time. Dee's program examines the circumstances that produced this work and shaped its distinctive style. In addition, you’ll hear the fascinating story of the painting’s unusually eventful provenance, including an update on the bizarre circumstances surrounding the painting’s current location.
All proceeds from this lecture series will go to support educational programming at DFAC.
