Today Gustave Klimt (1862-1918) is best known for his now famous painting, The Kiss. In his own time, Klimt was the enfant terrible of Vienna’s turn-of-the-century art scene. In 1900, his designs for the University of Vienna murals prompted a firestorm of controversy amid charges of obscenity. Learn more about this artist’s unique accomplishments, his unconventional lifestyle, and the influences that shaped his distinctive “Golden Period” style.
