Skill Levels: Intermediate,Advanced
Introduction to block relief printing in linocut techniques. No printmaking experience is necessary, but some art class experience is. Working in oil-based inks, we will explore one-color and more advanced reduction and multiple block prints for those who want to go further in their relief printing experience. In-depth instruction in registration techniques, methods and materials with an emphasis on solid design and pre-planning will be offered in this class. Ages 17 and up.

Note: Your fee includes your first linoleum block(s), proofing papers, inks and modifiers. There will be a class handout and brief discussion of the history of relief printing and styles while working. We'll cover choosing your subject matter from photos and sketches, preparing images for maximum contrast and interest, pre-planning for multiple colors, carving techniques, block registration methods and printing techniques. We use oil based inks cleaned with minimal amounts of odorless mineral spirits with sawdust in our cleanup for those with a sensitivity.
