Member Tuition: $180.00
Non-Member: $210.00
Mat'l Fee:   $10.00

Skill Levels: Beginner

For beginning students who are ready to progress from Introductory Oil Painting 1 (blending and mixing oil paint). In this class, students will be introduced to two new image making techniques: wet-on-wet technique that is a thicker, looser and more direct way to paint, and dry-on-dry technique that is worked on in layers and bears a likeness to pastel drawing and shading. The course will focus on the same basics as blending and mixing (underpainting and under drawing, blocking in values and understanding value in black and white) but will require students to use a more expressive paint applications and develop confidence in various ways to mix color on the canvas rather than on the palette. Students will produce multiple studies and will be encouraged to work with different brushes and tools that are consonant with their own natural painting tendencies. Drawing skills not required, but drawing will be an integral part of the course. Group critique is part of the course and students will be given the opportunity to discuss their work and the work of others.
Ages 17 and up.
