Students will create multiple art projects through painting (watercolors and acrylics), drawing, mixed-media, and more! Students will receive one-on-one art student instruction while discovering the world of famous artists like Salvador Dalí, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Pablo Picasso. Students will learn about the color wheel, color theory, juxtaposition, texture, perspective, and more while practicing true self-expression! Students will learn about realism versus abstract art, how to make a collage, and how to create a self-portrait. Artists will begin to explore different mediums of the visual arts and build a small portfolio. Subject matter themes and mediums will vary week to week. Great for children with mental, social and physical disabilities such as, but not limited to, ADD/ADHD, ODD, Autism spectrum disorders and learning disabilities. Art encourages creativity, reduces stress, improves self-esteem, and can increase awareness as well as help with symptoms of trauma. Art is an abstract form of communication that allows individuals to express their feelings and emotions non verbally. Art is used to improve hand eye coordination, spatial reasoning, concentration and attention to detail. Sessions can be a great addition to current therapies or as a chance to relax and explore emotions through the creative process. Jennifer Klaus received a B.F.A. in Illustration from Ringling College of Art and Design. She has been teaching 9 years at DFAC in the children/teen art classes/camps. Jennifer has a BA in Psychology and a Master's in Clinical Research/Social Work. She is a LCSW who has worked with children of all ages and their families in individual, family and group sessions, particularly those with behavior, learning and developmental disorders. Jennifer worked with Calvin A. Hunsinger and Paul B. Stephens (both Pinellas county center schools), an inpatient SIPP program for adolescents, an outpatient trauma and behavioral program for children and their families.

A great introductory class for teens to explore the craft of printing black and white photographs in a traditional wet darkroom. Students will learn the essential steps of developing film and printing their own photographs.
