May 22nd, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. NOA NOA: The Tahitian Journal by Paul Gaugin May 22nd, 2008: the featured book will be NOA NOA: The Tahitian Journal by Paul Gauguin. The discussion will be led by Pat Brant Gauguin’s time in Tahiti was some of his most fertile creatively and NOA NOA, though typically considered a journal or memoir, is in fact an early type of experimental multimedia novel. Thematically, Gauguin burlesques Pierre Loti’s “Marriage of Loti”, while structurally he interleaves narrative with his own highly-inventive Post-impressionist woodcarvings. It’s a fine book: Gauguin could have been a great novelist, if he weren’t already busy. Click here to purchase this month's title: NOA NOA: The Tahitian Journal by Paul Gaugin.
