Faber-Castell “PERFECTION 7058” INK ERASER (Provided in class for new students)
A typing/ink eraser that sharpens like a pencil.
KNEADED ERASER GRAPHITE DRAWING PENCILS H or HB (#2) lead or whatever you prefer
DRAWING PAPER (All new students receive a Stonehenge pad)
. Most basic is a pad of
vellum (not “smooth”)
bristol paper, 9 x 12" or 11 x 14".
Other choices include colored Stonehenge, pastel papers such as Canson Mi-Tientes, UArt, Colourfix or
cold-press illustration board. (
Plain sketchbook paper is not recommended for colored pencil; it’s OK for preliminary drawing.)
PENCIL SHARPENER If buying electric, choose the kind with a spiral cutter, not a single blade. Office supply stores have their own brands and other choices.
MASKING TAPE or clear tape DRAWING BOARD for support OPTIONAL SUPPLIES (nice to have but NOT necessary):
Colorless blender pencils: Derwent, Prismacolor Colorless Blender or Lyra "Splender" blender
X-Acto knife (or similar small craft knife)
Colorless blender markers (made by Prismacolor and others)
popsicle stick and/or golf tee (yes, really!)
various other erasers
tracing paper
graphite transfer paper
blending stump (pointed blending tool made of tightly rolled paper)
workable fixative ( recommended to prevent “bloom” on finished work)
Some students bring a table easel for proper viewing angle. (Floor easels are available in studio)
PLEASE GIVE CONSIDERATION TO SUBJECT MATTER! Have good, clear references. You may want to have an outline drawing ready before class. Pre-printed projects will be available for beginners.
